Taking advantage of The Queen's Jubilee, I am running a 4-days workshop where we will study one of my favourite pieces that I performed a lifetime ago. You can watch me perform it during a school tour to Trento, Italy.
We will explore once more the Balanchine style, how he took classical positions and movements and stretch and exaggerated them, which whilst allowing more freedom for the dancer require a very strong technique.
Franziska performs Tchaikovsky pas de deux solo, age 17
What To Expect
We will start each day with an extended ballet class that will allow us to
• prepare for the technique required in the solo, e.g. battus, turns
• spend more time on difficult movements
• answer your questions
After a small break, we will be working on the Tchaikovsky pas de deux solo. We are aiming for a progression of
• choreographic memory
• technical execution
• artistry
Each student can work on these progressions at their individual level and I will offer modifications where needed, and also slow down the music until we accomplish the steps.

Thanks, Franziska for a wonderful workshop!
Despite being physically very challenging, it has been full of joy and happiness, and the atmosphere of support was just so important.

Who Is The Workshop For
We want to be as inclusive as possible and welcome students of different levels. However, to benefit from this retreat you should have at least one year of regular ballet class experience.
This is a guideline only as each person differs in how they learn and more so, in what they expect of themselves.
Some people are happy to simply participate, to feel the comradery, and to enjoy learning famous ballet steps even if they are beyond their current ability. Whilst others get frustrated unless they are able to remember the choreography well and to perform the movements at a high level.
This piece is a traditionally female part, however, if you are a male ballet student and would like to join, you are very welcome too.
You can participate wearing regular ballet slippers or pointe shoes.
Pre-study Video
Once booked and made your payment, please email me to receive the link for the pre-study video. This will help you prepare for the workshop. You do not have to learn the steps by heart before the retreat but having a rough idea will help you make the most of the 4 days.
The video will also help you revisit what you have learned in the classes.
