Berlin Ballet Retreat with Holistic Ballet
Five days of ballet training, rehearsal and individual attention in Berlin
Dates: 12–16 July 2027
Location: Dock 11, Studio 2, Kastanienallee 79, 10435 Berlin
Level: Intermediate and advanced
After the experiences of previous Holistic Ballet retreats in Berlin, I am very happy to be planning another five-day ballet retreat in July 2027.
This is an opportunity to spend several days focusing on your ballet training without the time pressure of a regular weekly class.
Programme*
The retreat runs from Monday afternoon to Friday afternoon. Each day combines ballet class with rehearsal, giving us plenty of time to work on both technique and choreography.

Monday
15:00–16:30 — Ballet class
16:40–18:40 — Rehearsal
18:45–19:00 — Stretch
We start Monday afternoon with class before moving into the choreography. The short stretch at the end gives us a chance to wind down after the first day of training.

Tuesday–Thursday
10:00–11:55 — Ballet class
12:00–12:30 — Pointe
12:30–13:15 — Break
13:15–15:15 — Rehearsal
These are our main training and rehearsal days. The extended ballet class gives us time to work in detail, followed by pointe work and a substantial rehearsal period.

Friday
10:00–11:55 — Ballet class
12:00–12:30 — Pointe
12:30–13:15 — Break
13:15–14:15 — Rehearsal
14:30–15:00 — Performance
15:00–15:15 — Pictures and goodbyes

On Friday we bring the choreography together for a short performance at the end of the retreat, followed by some photos and goodbyes.
*schedule can vary

A week of focused ballet training
The schedule is deliberately structured around class, rehearsal and repetition.
Rather than trying to fit everything into a single daily class, we have enough time to work on technical details, apply them to the choreography and return to the material over several days.
The set-up also means that you will learn from each other and receive individual corrections and feedback throughout the week.
Ballet class
Extended classes give us time to work on movements and technical details that often get squeezed into a regular 60 or 90-minute class.
Rehearsal
We will learn and rehearse a ballet piece (tbc) throughout the week. The choreography will be adapted where necessary to suit the group and space, so that we can work at an appropriate level without losing the character of the original choreography. You will receive preparation material before the retreat so that you can familiarise yourself with the choreography in advance.
Pointe
There will be a short pointe class after ballet class for those who would like to participate.
Pilates
Some days may begin with Pilates class to help you connect the physical preparation with your ballet training.
Final run-through
At the end of the retreat, we will put the choreography together and perform it for ourselves, friends and families. It is not a formal performance, but it gives us the satisfying experience of seeing the work come together after several days of rehearsal.

There will also be short breaks during longer rehearsal sessions. You do not need to be able to work at maximum intensity for five hours without stopping. The aim is to train consistently while paying attention to your own body and energy levels.

The afternoons and evenings are free for you to rest, meet other participants or explore Berlin.
What makes the retreat different?

A retreat gives us something that a regular ballet class cannot: time.
Time to repeat a movement.
Time to ask questions.
Time to work on a technical detail until it makes sense.

And time to rehearse choreography often enough for it to move beyond simply remembering the steps.
We are not only interested in what the movements look like, but also in how they feel, what story they tell, and how we can work with our own body.
Berlin Ballet Retreat 2023
Is this retreat suitable for me?

The retreat is aimed at intermediate and advanced adult ballet dancers.
You should have a solid understanding of basic ballet vocabulary and be comfortable following my Saturday online beginner & intermediate class.

If you are unsure whether the level is suitable for you, please get in touch before booking.

I will ask you to send me a short video of your ballet technique. This is not an audition, and I am not looking for perfection. It simply gives me an idea of your current level and helps me make sure that the retreat is appropriate for you.

Optional: Dynamic Stretching for Dancers
You can also add my Dynamic Stretching for Dancers workshop to your retreat booking.
The workshop takes place in the same studio and focuses on dynamic stretching, joint mobility, strength and the relationship between flexibility and stability.
