From Adage to Allegro

In this workshop, we are going to enjoy practising the elegant movements of the adage, one of the most beautiful aspects of classical ballet.

The combination of these elements:

• slow movements

• long lines

• strong legs 

• fluid port de bras

• musicality

• 'effortless' coordination

is what many people may think of when you tell them that you do ballet. So we are going to work on becoming that what others imagine us to be.

In contrast to the above, we are once more going to face the technical challenge of the allegro. Jumps in ballet are associated with:

• virtuosity

• speed

• power

• grandeur

 

There is petite, medium, and grand allegro and I will select a few from each category and of different degrees of difficulty for beginner and more advanced level students.

 

To experience what all the hard work is for, we will learn two or three corresponding sequences from popular ballets towards the end of the workshop before we complete with a deep stretch routine, not only to release acute muscle tension but also to give you ideas how to stretch on your own.

To benefit as many sincere students as possible, the workshop will be taught at beginner and intermediate/ advanced levels. You can choose the level(s) you want to participate in. You can also swap during the workshop if you find an exercise too easy or too challenging.
